Phase equilibria in the ternary system CeTiSn at 600C

The isothermal section of the phase diagram of the ternary system CeTiSn was constructed in the whole concentration range at 600C by means of X-ray powder diffraction. The binary compounds of the systems CeSn and TiSn dissolve negligible amounts of the third component. Two ternary compounds, CeTi6Sn4 and ~Ce3TiSn5, were found. The crystal structure of the compound CeTi6Sn4 belongs to the structure type ZrFe6Ge4 (Pearson symbol hR33, space group R-3m, a = 5.8101(11), c = 22.971(5) Å). It completes the row of isotypic RTi6Sn4 compounds with ZrFe6Ge4-type structure (R = Y, La-Nd, Sm, Gd-Tm, Lu).
